Applications & Auditions

The below page takes you through every step of our process, from application to audition to receiving an offer to enrolling on the course.

The following application/audition process is applicable to applicants applying for:

  • 3-Year BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre
  • 3-Year Level 6 Diploma in Musical Theatre
  • 1-Year Foundation Course

All applicants go through the same audition regardless of the course they have applied for.

All applicants are invited to audition. Auditions take place in-person at our premises in Epsom. In exceptional circumstances, an online audition may be possible by arrangement with our admissions team.

STEP 1 (Create an Account):

  • Commence an online application (by clicking the apply button)
  • On first visit to the application system, you need to select ‘Register’. Enter your name, email address and a password of your choice. Please retain your password for future use. PLEASE NOTE, the login email cannot then be changed, so please consider whether to use yours or a parent’s/guardian’s email address.
  • A verification email will be sent to you – simply follow the instructions to verify your application.
  • You can now follow the same link as before, but this time ‘Login’ using the credentials requested and your chosen password.
  • Several elements of the application are ‘required information’. As such you will be unable to submit your application without completion of those elements – they will show in red for your convenience.
  • You can save and close, then revisit and add to your application an infinite number of times. However PLEASE NOTE, if you leave your open application unattended for a length of time it will ‘timeout’ and if not saved, recently entered information will be lost. TIP – save as you go.

STEP 2 (Submit):

  • When you have entered all that you wish and completed all compulsory fields – there will be no red fields remaining – you can proceed to ‘Submit’ and make payment.
  • On making payment, your online application will be automatically transferred, and you can await notification of an audition date.
  • PLEASE NOTE, you can still access your application at any time should you wish to amend or update, so do retain your login details.

STEP 3 (Audition Notification)

  • You will receive an audition notification by email to the account you used to login. This email may go into spam, and you may miss your audition as a result. To ensure that your account will accept this email, add auditions@laine-theatre-arts.co.uk to your contacts.
  • If you are unable to attend on the date allocated, please contact Sarah Carroll as soon as possible on 01372 741682.
  • In preparing for your audition, ensure that you have read and fully understood the Audition Requirements which will also tell you what to expect on the day.

UNSUCCESSFUL

Will I be offered a different course to the one I applied for?

Whilst applicants state their course preference when applying, the college may offer you an alternative course depending on your suitability. Applicants to the 3-Year Musical Theatre Course who demonstrate significant potential but are not at entry standard may be offered our 1-Year Foundation Course.

Why have I received an offer for two different courses?

When an applicant is eligible for both of our 3-Year courses, to keep finance options open to students, we often make a conditional offer for our BA (Hons) Musical Theatre alongside an unconditional offer for our Level 6 Diploma in Musical Theatre. This enables applicants to explore different funding options. More information on this can be found on our ‘Fees & Funding’ page – click HERE.

At the point of offer, you will be sent the College’s Terms and Conditions.

Before accepting your offer you will need to ensure you have fully understood the financial commitment of the course. Click HERE for further information on fees and funding.

To accept your offer you need to pay a deposit and return a signed copy of the College’s Terms and Conditions.

By the end of August, applicants with conditional offers are required to submit an ‘Education & Qualification Declaration’ to the College. This details the qualifications of the applicant, confirming their eligibility to enrol on the course.

Enrolment takes place early September. Students are required to attend the College for a series of administration checks, this includes providing evidence of qualifications through official transcripts or qualification certificates.

Audition Requirements

Candidates, parents and/or guardians are welcomed by staff and a team of current students. YOUR DAY WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING: You, and your parent/guardian if attending, will be welcomed, and given the opportunity to ask any initial questions you may have. Elements to Prepare for your Audition

MONOLOGUE

Please prepare one of the monologues from the list of options which will be made available on this page soon. You may choose to play a role which differs from your own gender. The monologue should be prepared and performed in your natural accent.

SINGING

Please prepare two contrasting musical theatre songs (e.g. one lyrical and one up-tempo), under 1 minute 30 seconds per song – one or both may be heard. You should prepare the full song AND clearly mark your chosen 16-24 bar section which will show you at your best, since only a section of your song may be heard. Sheet music for piano must be provided, taped together in order that pages sit side by side on a piano. Backing tracks are NOT accepted.

DANCE SOLO

Please prepare a modern dance solo: jazz, lyrical, contemporary or commercial. This should not exceed 1 minute 30 seconds. Any accompaniment needs to be recorded on CDR or an iPhone or iPod, not CDRW. Candidates should make sure any CDR produced has been finalised and plays in commercial CD players.
