The FAQs below take you through each stage of the journey – from applying, to auditioning, to joining Laine Theatre Arts.
Applying to Laine
All applications are made directly to Laine Theatre Arts, not through UCAS. Click here to apply
- Applicants aged 16 at entry will be enrolled on the Level 6 Diploma.
- Applicants aged 18+ will be considered for the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre, depending on qualifications.
Yes. We hold a number of Open Days throughout the year, where you can tour our facilities and observe classes. We also encourage prospective students to attend our Summer Show in June at the Epsom Playhouse.
We are currently unable to sponsor visas. Applicants may only audition if they:
- hold a British passport,
- have dual British nationality,
- reside in the Republic of Ireland, or
- have settled status or certified leave to remain in the UK.
Auditions
Yes, all auditions take place at our Epsom campus, so applicants can experience a day at Laine. In exceptional circumstances, remote/online auditions may be considered.

We look for individuals who are hardworking, self-disciplined, and courageous, with a clear passion for theatre. At audition, we assess your potential and ability to cope with the rigorous, wide-ranging training we provide.
Courses
Both courses share the same structure in Years 1 and 2. In Year 3, students work together on performance projects but complete different final assessments:
- Diploma students: Professional Development Portfolio + Sustained Research Project.
- Degree students: Dissertation (practical or written), demonstrating expertise and artistic growth.
No. Students cannot hold two types of government funding.
- If you receive a DaDA, you will be enrolled onto the Level 6 Diploma, which is funded differently.
- Student Finance loans are only available for the 3-Yr BA (Hons) Musical Theatre course.
Yes. Many students on the Diploma choose to enrol on the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre (Top-Up) in their final year.
- Please note: if you are receiving a DaDA, you cannot access Student Finance for the Top-Up. You would need to cover tuition fees privately.
- Some students choose to complete the Top-Up after graduating, when Student Finance becomes available to them.
