Pre-professional Training – BACKUP

The Laine Theatre Arts Junior Department is a dynamic, thriving part-time school for children and young people aged 3-18 yrs.  We offer recreational dance, drama and musical theatre classes for pupils who seek to have fun learning new skills, meet like-minded people, and build personal confidence. We are also in the process of developing a new, pre-professional pathway for pupils of secondary school age who are interested in training with a focus on what is required of a young performer seeking to enter the theatre industry as a career choice.

Fees

Classes are currently charged at the rate of £10 per hour.

For aspiring young performers aged 11+

….is now in development!

This is an exciting new opportunity for young pupils who are passionate about performance and eager to take their training to the next level. We are in the process of developing a unique, part-time programme which aims to combine creative, industry-focussed learning with top-level technical training to create confident, creative, free-spirited, and resilient young individual performers who are ready for the next stage in their professional journey.

Rebecca Elliott-Moore
Vice Principal, Pre-Vocational Training

Rebecca graduated from Laine Theatre Arts in 2001 and went on to complete a BA (Hons) in English Literature from the University of Durham and an MA in acting and performance from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. In 2007, she returned to Laine as a member of the Diploma Course Drama Faculty and soon afterwards, discovered a passion for children’s teaching. Rebecca holds the Licentiate qualification of the ISTD in Classical Ballet and is the overall pre-vocational training lead at Laine. She is Head of the one-year Foundation Course and part of the Junior Department Leadership Trio. Rebecca is also a tutor on the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre course and is about to embark on an MA in Educational Leadership with Warwick University.

Amy Skeoch

Amy graduated from Laine Theatre Arts in 1994 and worked as a choreographer on Trade Shows such as Audi, Vodafone, One-2-One, Premiere League Pre-Match Entertainment, and various pantomimes up and down the country such as Theatre Royal Bath, The Grand Theatre Blackpool, The Beck Theatre Hayes and choreographed for the National Youth Music Theatre.  In 2000, she returned to Laine as a freelance jazz teacher.  Currently, Amy is the Junior Department Creative Development Lead; Junior Department Jazz Lead; 3rd Year Commercial Dance teacher; Foundation Technical Jazz teacher; Junior Department Jazz and Commercial teacher and is Laine Theatre Arts Learning Support Lead.  Amy specialises in building a dancer’s physical and mental skill base and is currently in her 3rd Year of a BSc (Honours) Forensic Psychology Degree.

Nicki Danika-Pain

Nicki Danika-Pain began working professionally as a child in 1990, performing in the West End production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat and Scrooge The Musical, amongst others. Nicki graduated from Laine Theatre Arts between 1997-2000, gaining her Musical Theatre Diploma and ISTD Associate teaching qualifications in Modern and Tap. She went on to work professionally as a dancer in numerous summer seasons, pantomimes, and commercial events, and eventually in choreography. Nicki has been a member of the LTA Faculty for 17 years; she holds her AISTD Diploma and teaches a wide range of subjects including Modern, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre and Fitness. Nicki is a member of the Junior Department Leadership Trio, Departmental Coordinator for LTA’s open classes, and a tutor on the Foundation Course.

Sharon Rault

Sharon was born and raised in Harare Zimbabwe. She came to the UK in 1986 to complete her teacher training at Laine Theatre Arts.  A full-time teaching post at the college followed which Sharon occupied for many years before taking some time out to focus on family life.  Sharon began taking Pilates lessons as part of a rehabilitation programme following a horse-riding accident and a keen interest in exercise and rehabilitation followed as did the start of her Pilates teaching career. Sharon currently teaches ballet for the Junior Department and Foundation Course.  She teaches Pilates on the Diploma course and is the college Injury Manager.

Fran Mangiacasale

Junior Department Contemporary Faculty

Fran Mangiacasale is a contemporary, classical and neoclassical dancer, teacher and choreographer.

He trained in Genoa with national and international teachers, he then moved to London in 2002 where he continued his professional development in Contemporary with a variety of different teacher, Ballet with the late Roger Tully, and Dance Mastery an innovative system created by Konstantin Pavlidis. Fran has danced in numerous companies including The Lindsay Kemp Company, National Dance Company of Wales, Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre, Unstructured Light, Smallpetitklein, The London Ballet Company, The Royal Opera House, English National Opera, and performed in different productions and projects with a variety of choreographers. Fran was also Assistant Choreographer and Dance captain in productions at the English National Opera, Hamburg Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opera Sao Carlo ( Lisbon ). In 2013 he was invited to be assistant Choreographer and Guest Soloist with the Azerbaijan State Academic Ballet in “Shadow of Gobustain” Choreographed by Maxine Braham. As Choreographer he has created work for Toos Foundation, Opera Fabula (Vienna), XOGA, The London Ballet Company, Blackheath Opera Halls, Grange Festival Opera and Let’s all Dance Ballet Company where is currently resident choreographer, dancer and designer

Christopher Woodhall
Junior Department Singing and Musical Theatre Lead

Christopher Woodhall is a musical theatre practitioner specialising in singing and acting through song. Christopher gained a BA(Hons) in Performing Arts in 2005 and then went on to train in contemporary dance at Newcastle University. Christopher has worked as a performer in regional and UK and European touring productions as a musical theatre performer, actor and dancer; he also has a number of theatrical production credits for musical directing and theatre directing. Christopher has worked with youth theatre projects for Glyndebourne, Opera North and the British Youth Film Academy. He gained a PGCE with the University of Westminster in 2013 and in addition to Laine Theatre Arts, he teaches singing technique and application, and repertoire classes at London Studio Centre on the FDa and BA programmes.

Frankyy Williams
Junior Department Modern and Tap Faculty

Frankyy Williams started her training young at the Sylvia Young Theatre School and as an Associate of the Royal Ballet School. She then went on to train at Performers College, graduating in 2014. Frankyy has worked in America, Japan, China and India; once playing the lead role in an all-mandarin show for Disney Productions! Frankyy joined LTA at the start of 2020 and is a Modern, Tap and Jazz teacher in the Junior and Adult Departments. She is currently studying on the Laine BA Top-up Degree Course and holds her DDE qualifications in both Modern Theatre and Tap. Frankyy is also currently working towards gaining her Licentiate qualification in both disciplines.

Anya Phillips
Head of Junior Drama

Anya trained at The Royal Ballet School and Laine Theatre Arts prior to a 20-year career in theatre, television and film. She returned to Laine in 2005 as a Drama teacher in the Junior Department, a role that she combined with the post of Head of Drama at Amesbury School until deciding to concentrate on her Laine students. Anya currently teaches across the College – Head of Junior Drama, Foundation Course Drama Tutor and leads Contextual Studies on the Diploma Course. She is particularly keen on developing confidence in young performers whatever their age or ability and will soon be studying for an MEd in Pastoral Care with the University of Aberdeen.
