Year 1: Exploring the fundamentals
Your journey begins with intensive training in the core disciplines of musical theatre. Skill-specific classes (acting, dance, singing) are complemented by integrated sessions to refine your performance technique. With expert-led instruction, you will also explore topics such as nutrition, anatomy, and performance psychology, ensuring a holistic approach to your development. You will engage in project work that delves into the rich history of musical theatre, including a focus on censorship and its impact on British theatre. In-house performances of musical extracts throughout the year provide stage experience.
Year 2: Refining Your Craft
Building on Year 1, you will refine skills through diverse theatrical genres, emphasising independent application. Assessments focus on the integration of all disciplines, preparing you for real-world performance scenarios. Through our in-house agent, you will be offered the chance to gain professional pantomime experience during the festive season, or if you remain on-site participate in an in-house production. Spring Term introduces an understudy/swing project, fostering adaptability and critical thinking – essential skills for a professional career. As the year progresses, you will begin preparing for the challenges of your final year, including auditioning for your final-year productions before the summer break.
Year 3: Industry-Ready Performance
The final year is fully industry-focused, preparing you for professional auditions and career opportunities. You will perform a full-scale in-house musical with industry guests, create a digital showcase for agents and casting directors, participate in an acting/dance showcase and perform in a professional pantomime (or an in-house production). Ongoing skills-based classes ensure you maintain an audition-ready standard. At the end of the year, Diploma students complete a Professional Development Portfolio and Sustained Research Project, while Degree students undertake a Dissertation, which may be practical or written, showcasing expertise and artistic growth.
Our dynamic training approach ensures that you develop your skills in an engaging and immersive environment. Skills teaching takes place in the studio, where you will learn alongside your peers as teachers demonstrate material and guide you through repetition – helping you refine technique, precision, and artistry.
In project classes, you will collaborate with a Creative who will lead the process, encouraging you to bring research, ideas, and innovation to the collective creation. This hands-on experience will challenge and inspire you to think critically and contribute meaningfully to your work.
Lectures provide a broader academic foundation in larger group settings, while smaller seminar-style academic skills sessions create space for in-depth discussion, personalised feedback, and deeper exploration of ideas.
This well-rounded approach ensures you gain both technical mastery and creative confidence, preparing you for the demands of a professional career.
In your first year with us, you will benefit from high levels of contact time with our dedicated teachers, who will continuously assess your progress and provide invaluable verbal feedback to help you grow and refine your skills.
Year 1 is designed to build a strong foundation, with major assessments taking place at the end of the Spring Term, focusing on key skill disciplines. You will also take part in two assessed performances – one in the Autumn Term and another in the Spring Term – allowing you to showcase your development in a professional setting.
Throughout the year, you will engage in a range of assignments, including an essay, a presentation, and a written reflection, all designed to challenge and expand your understanding. Assessment in Year 1 follows a pass/fail system, ensuring that your focus remains on progress and mastery rather than numerical grades. Successfully passing Year 1 is your gateway to Year 2, where you will continue to build upon everything you have learned.
